How to Decorate Your Hotel for Christmas

How to Decorate Your Hotel for Christmas

The holidays aren’t just a season – they’re a feeling. Guests might forget the exact dish they ordered or the precise room layout, but they’ll always remember the warm glow of twinkling lights, the scent of fresh greenery, and the sight of a spectacular Christmas tree in your lobby. In the hospitality industry, that magical atmosphere is an invitation to make memories.

If you want to enchant your guests, boost bookings, and stand out as a holiday destination, decorating your hotel for Christmas isn’t just a nice touch – it’s a strategic move. Let’s unwrap the details on how to make it happen.

What Are the Benefits of Decorating a Hotel for Christmas?

Decorating your hotel for the holidays creates an immersive, memorable experience for your guests.

  1. It makes guests feel at home. Whether they’re traveling for work, a holiday getaway, or a family gathering, guests love walking into a space that radiates warmth and festive cheer. A beautifully decorated hotel offers comfort and familiarity, even for those far from home.
  2. It’s a marketing advantage. Your Christmas décor becomes part of your brand story. Guests will take photos, share them on social media, and tag your location which is ultimately free advertising that reaches potential customers who are looking for a magical stay.
  3. It increases foot traffic. Even locals may stop in to admire your holiday displays, enjoy a meal, or attend an event. A striking façade or an Instagram-worthy lobby can draw in people who might not have otherwise visited.

When Should You Start Decorating Your Hotel for Christmas?

In the hospitality world, timing is everything. Start too early, and you risk losing the magic. Start too late, and you miss out on prime holiday excitement.

At American Christmas, we’ve worked with hotels of every size, and here’s what we’ve found:

  • Most large hotels install decorations during Thanksgiving week. In fact, two of our major hotel projects last season went up on November 24 and November 26 – just in time for guests arriving for the long weekend to enjoy them.
  • Smaller hotels can sometimes be scheduled earlier. Based on our installation calendar, early November can be a great time to get a head start, especially if your property wants to enjoy an extended holiday season.
  • It pays off to plan ahead. We recommend finalizing your design months in advance to lock in the high-demand holiday décor and professional services.

Key Areas of Your Hotel to Decorate for Maximum Impact

Decorating an entire hotel can feel overwhelming, but with a strategic approach, you can focus on high-impact areas that guests interact with most.

Outdoor Façade

Your hotel’s exterior is your first opportunity to ‘wow’ visitors. Twinkling lights outlining the building, lush greenery draped across ledges, and light-up sculptures are all small touches that contribute to the overall impression of the hotel.

Outdoor Archway Entrance

Frame your front doors with a festive archway of garland, lights, and oversized ornaments. This not only sets the tone for the holiday experience but also creates a perfect photo spot.

Lobby

The heart of your hotel should be the centerpiece of your décor. Install a showstopping Christmas tree, drape garlands across railings, and place elegant fiberglass statues like reindeer or nutcrackers to welcome guests in grand holiday style.

Reception & Front Desk

A warm welcome starts here. Adorn your front desk with festive wreaths, garlands, and ornament-based centerpieces that add cheer without obstructing functionality.

Dining Area

Dress up your restaurant or café with table centerpieces like candles, or mini Christmas trees. Consider adding special holiday-themed menus to enhance the seasonal atmosphere.

Stairs

Wrap banisters in garlands and Christmas lights, and tie in ribbons or bows for extra detail. Even transitional spaces can feel magical with the right touches.

Windows

Your windows are natural frames for holiday magic. Hang ornaments, snowflakes, or light-up motifs to catch the attention of passersby and invite them inside.

Get Inspired by Our Professional Hotel Christmas Décor

We’ve had the joy of transforming some of the world’s most prestigious hotels into breathtaking winter wonderlands. You can explore our full portfolio here – but here’s a peek at a few of our favorite projects.

Four Seasons Hotel New York

Collage of 2 photos - entrance of the hotel, and indoor of the hotel, decorated with Christmas decorations.

A timeless display of elegance. We adorned the Four Seasons with rich greenery, red and golden accents, and a light-wrapped garland framing the entrance, creating a sophisticated yet inviting atmosphere. Guests were greeted by a stunning lobby tree that became a magnet for holiday photos.

Trump International Hotel & Tower

Trump International Hotel & Tower featured dramatic and oversized presents under a towering Christmas tree that excited the inner child in everyone. Giant nutcrackers greeted visitors at the entrance, foreshadowing the magical display that awaited in the lobby.

Park Hyatt

The Park Hyatt embraced modern luxury with a chic, gilded approach. Golden reindeer flanked a glimmering tree made entirely of ornaments. The sleek yet impactful arrangements matched the hotel’s contemporary design, with the decorations reflecting beautifully off the elegant marble floors.

The Langham

Making use of The Langham’s angled lobby entrance, the hotel became the “launchpad” for Santa’s reindeer! The beautiful exterior reindeer décor was only the beginning of the hotel’s expert use of floor-to-ceiling light displays on Christmas trees, wreaths, and framing garland throughout the hotel.
